Eco-Complete Planted Aquarium Substrate, 20 lbs. Caribsea.

Water Packed Bag Planted Black (0.25 - 7mm)

One of the best performing planted substrates in the world!

Why does Eco-Complete? planted aquarium substrate outperform other products? For the same reason that Hawaii, Bali and Costa Rica are famous for lush, exuberant plant growth. The secret lies in rich basaltic volcanic soil which contains iron, calcium, magnesium, potassium, sulfur plus over 25 other elements to nourish your aquatic plants. Eco-Complete? Planted Aquarium Substrate is mineralogically and biologically complete, giving you luxuriant aquatic plant growth without nuisance algae! Iron rich Eco?Complete? eliminates the need for laterite. No artificial dyes, paints, or chemical coatings. Eco-Complete? has highly porous spherical grains for optimum diffusion performance and contains live Heterotrophic bacteria to rapidly convert fish waste into natural food for your aquatic plants. It establishes a natural biological balance which makes cycling a new aquarium faster and safer.

Frequently Asked Questions

Question:

What is the difference between Floramax? and Eco-Complete? Planted?

Answer:

The Floramax? has already lost most of its solubility over geologic time leaving a nice root-friendly porous material. The Eco-Complete? Planted is at the beginning of its geologic lifetime and will therefore perform better (greater solubility)the more it is colonized with symbiotic fungus and bacteria and supplemented with lignin based carbon in the form of dead roots and leaf fragments. The idea of performance dropping off comes from the use of slightly soluble materials. When a material is slightly soluble (relatively speaking) the effects of surface area are more pronounced. The smaller grains and dust size particles have greater surface area than the larger gravel size grains so when the dust and sand size particles are exhausted the overall soluble element delivery drops off. In early marine aquariums the use of dolomite followed this pattern and was solved by switching to aragonite which is a more soluble form of calcium carbonate. I always like to check out internet advice while keeping a skeptical eye. Sometimes there is some very valuable info there. I always remember the old saying ?In theory, theory and practice are the same but in practice they?re not."

Question:

How long does the Eco-Complete? Planted substrate remain effective for or after what period of time will I need to replace it?

Answer:

Eco-Complete? Planted is a geologically recent basaltic volcanic material. Since it is not a weathered product such as clays or laterites it will stay active over the life of the aquarium, will not break down into a mud, and does not need to be replaced.

Question:

Hi i was wondering how long does the Eco-Complete? Planted last in a tank and also is it ok to add like a samd on top or will that defeat the purpose of the Eco-Complete? Planted and lastly does Eco-Complete? Planted take in the nutrients from the water column and feed the roots with it cause im gonna fertilize the water column and need a substrate that will do that.

Answer:

Eco-Complete? Planted will last indefinitely. It won?t break down or turn to mud. Eco-Complete? Planted will supply trace elements that the plant needs but does not supply a fertilizer component ie. N,P or K. You either need to add the fertilizer or have fish in there that you feed regularly.

Question:

We recently set up a 75 gallon for plants and used 150 lbs of Eco-Complete? Planted for substrate to show our customers the benefit of your product. I was wondering if and when it would be necessary to add any plant additives to that tank.

Answer:

Unless you are really pushing the growth, the Eco-Complete? Planted will supply the trace element portion necessary for growth. You will still need to provide a nitrogen source such as keeping and feeding fish in this tank or nitrogen based fertilizer if the fish load is very light.
