Flatworm exit reef safe, Salifert + Labyrinth Carbon 500g, CONTINUUM Combo

After Flatworm exit treatment, please siphon out all dead flatworms following the treatment. Do largewater change & add carbon to remove the excessive toxin.

1. Salifert Flatworm Exit, Reef safe treats up to 300 gallons (1200L)

Reef safe! Treats up to 300 gallons!

Flatworm eXit itself is quite safe for fish and invertebrates. However, the body fluids of flatworms can be toxic to some reef inhabitants when present in a too high concentration. This body fluid is sometimes excreted when flatworms die.

So when you use this product it is important to do the following items first:

  1. Siphon out as many flatworms as possible
  2. Keep sufficient fresh activated carbon in a canister ready.
  3. turn off UV, ozone and remove activated carbon. Keep the skimmer turned on.

Important remarks

Below given remarks are a.o. meant to reduce the amount of the flatworm's toxic body fluids in the water.

Many people have treated their reef tank(s) successfully using Flatworm eXit without any problems. The most important factors are reducing the flatworms before commencing with the treatment and reducing the amount of the flatworm's body fluids released when they die as fast as possible.

Do not underestimate the number of flatworms in your system. In a few cases a significant number of flatworms can be hiding in for crevices. Blow water, with a powerhead or a turkey baster, in any crevice or hiding spot to flush out the flatworms. Siphon out those flatworms as well.

Furthermore, do not underestimate the amount of toxic body fluids these flatworms can excrete. This can be reduced significantly by really siphoning out as many dead flatworms as you can.

Any body fluids released by the dead flatworms in the water has to be reduced further by using about 1 pound of fresh high quality carbon for every 50 gallons. The carbon has to be used in a canister with sufficient forced water flow.

Take sufficient time for treating the tank. That is, do not treat your tank in a hurry. Also, take time to monitor your tank for at least 6 hours after treatment.

It is also wise to have at least 25% water ready for a water change if required.

Dosage:

Read all the above text before commencing with the treatment!

  • Four drops for every 5 gallons. The dropper contains approx. 250 drops (10ml). The dropper cap holds approx. 50 drops. So 1 cap full is good for approx 65 gallons.
  • Add it in a high flow area of the tank. If you want to treat a refugium only and if it's volume is too small for using a powerhead then mixing should be done manually.
  • It should work within 30 minutes.
  • If within 45 minutes no visible death of flatworms occur, add 50% more.
  • As soon as the flatworms start to die, commence with activated carbon to take out any toxic body fluids. Al;so see the above important remarks.
  • After an hour or so you can turn any UV or ozone on again.

2. Reef basis Labyrinth Carbon, coal based carbon 500g (1.1 lbs), CONTINUUM

The Continuum advantage.

All carbon is not created equal! It is all black, but that is where the similarity ends. Reef?Basis Labyrinth Carbon is a supreme quality, pelletized, steam activated filtration medium particularly selected for sensitive aquarium environments. Labyrinth is bituminous coal based exhibiting huge volumes of mezopores and macropores and suited to adsorption of a wide range of organic pollutants with minimal impact on trace minerals and pH. Labyrinth will remove stains, dissolved organics and toxic gases in marine, brackish and freshwater systems. It has a very high adsorption capability with an iodine number in excess of 1,000 and a molasses number in excess of 600, with immeasurable phosphates and almost no ash content.

Use in aquarium keeping.

Reef?Basis Labyrinth Carbon is much more active and effective than most competing carbons, so you can use less and still get excellent results. Many hobbyists prefer to keep activated carbon in their system all of the time and others prefer to use it intermittently, as needed to control color and cloudiness. Labyrinth works fine in either case, but Continuum recommends the latter method if the aquarium has excellent mechanical and biological filtration (In marine systems this would include a good protein skimmer). In this case, use it two or three days a week or as needed. Always properly dispose of used carbon in an ecologically responsible manner.

Directions and protocol.

Rinse well in cold filtered freshwater, preferably RO or distilled water, but tap water may be used. Place loosely in a polyester filter bag or filter chamber and position to force water flow through the carbon. For best results, use a particulate prefilter ahead of the carbon, such as filter floss or fine sponge. Use about 1 gram of Reef?Basis Labyrinth Carbon per gallon of aquarium capacity, or about 3/4 cupful per 100 US gallons (400 L).

Caution: Keep out of reach of children. Not for human consumption. Contains activated carbon, if ingested drink water. If in eyes flush with water.
