CaribSea Purple-Up One Gallon pack

Promote the growth of purple and pink coralline calcareous macroalgae on liverock.

PurpleUP is a new pinkand purple coralline algae accelerator. Since Purple Up is not afertilizer, it does not promote the growth of nuisance algae. How does itwork? PurpleUp uses a unique dual method approach to coralline agaeacceleration. It contains ionic calcium which immediately raisesdissolved calcium levels in your aquarium water. At the same time SuperSea Calcium (a 10 micron aragonite powder derived from natural seawater)targets the live rock surface. Super Sea Calcium dissolves in situ;delivering calcium, strontium, magnesium, and carbonate right where it'sneeded. PurpleUp also replenishes iodine; an essential element forcoralline algae tissues that quickly becomes depleted in closed systems. PurpleUp is an excellent addition to any aquarium with stony corals too! One bottle of PurpleUp replaces the typical multi product recipe for successfulcoralline algae growth favored by advanced aquarists.

PurpleUp? - uses a unique dualmethod approach to coralline algae acceleration. This approach is so uniquethat PurpleUp? has been awarded a US patent (US patent No. 7,565,883). Itcontains ionic calcium; which immediately raises dissolved calcium levels inyour aquarium water. At the same time Super Sea Calcium? (a 10 micron aragonitepowder derived from natural seawater) targets the live rock surface. Thisdissolves in situ; delivering calcium, strontium, magnesium, and carbonateright where it?s needed. PurpleUp? is not a fertilizer, it does not promote the growth ofnuisance algae.

Total Weeks: 10 Total Growth: 68.18%

Species: Stylophora spp.

Notes: ORA provided this coral.

This colony fractured during anattempt to
fasten the original to the support. Specimens
1, 2, and 3 were all one before the
experiemnt started.

Colony Weight (g): 28

Notes:
02 May, 2007 ? Both Metal Halide bulbs were replaced today. Significantdifference in color and output noted (the old bulbs were 9 months old). It willtake some of the corals a little time to adjust to the new bulbs.

14 May, 2007 ? Phosphate andnitrates tested, both almost undetectable. Calcium was about 380 ppm, I will beincreasing the Purple-Up dosage slightly.

FrequentlyAsked Questions

What?s the difference betweenBufferPlus? and PurpleUp??

Both of these products contain thesame main core ingredient: AragaMight? powder dissolved in water. AragaMight?contains Calcium and Carbonate in balanced proportion and is also a good sourceof Strontium, Magnesium and other minor trace elements. This is the soleingredient in BufferPlus?, (which is the same as AragaMilk?). This ingredientmakes Buffe Plus? the ideal alkalinity booster / calcium and trace elementsource. PurpleUp? expands on this main ingredient by adding an iodine sourceand adding an ionic form of calcium thus increasing the amount of availablecalcium. This makes PurpleUp? a more complete additive that may be used as astand alone reef supplement.

Why would I want to use PurpleUp?over BufferPlus?, or vice versa?

BufferPlus? is a great buffer tokeep your alkalinity in check and can be a good source of calcium and othertrace elements. PurpleUp? has an iodine component as well as the aragonitecomponent of BufferPlus?. (See also preceding answer).

Directions

Shake well before use! Add 1 capful(5ml) per 50 gallons no more than once daily. Place in the sump, near apowerhead outlet, or any high flow area of the system for rapid dispersal.Purple uptm will cause some temporary cloudiness. Check calcium levelsregularly. Adjust dosage of purple uptm to maintain calcium levels between 380ppm and 420 ppm (380 mg/l to 420 mg/l). Do not exceed 420 ppm on a regular basisor significant precipitation will occur. (important! Wait at least 1 hour afterusing purple up to test calcium levels or erroneously high calcium levels maybe indicated.)

Factors for best coralline algaegrowth:

- PurpleUp? does not containcoralline algae. Some living coralline algae must already be living on rocks oraquarium glass.

- high dissolved phosphate levelsinhibit the growth of coralline algae (and corals) and favors the growth ofnuisance algaes. Check phosphate levels and use PhosBuster? or other productsto lower phosphate levels if necessary.

- carbonate hardness levels shouldbe maintained at natural seawater levels 2-2.5 meq/l or higher.

- high nitrogeneous waste levelsencourage nuisance algae growth, keep nitrogenous waste levels in check.

- keep ph in the range of normalseawater (8.2).

- light spectrum in the range of5500? Kelvin or higher favors the growth of coralline algae.

- grazing animals such as snails, tangs and reef friendly hermit crabs encourgae coralline algae by consumingcompeting fast growing nuisance algaes.

- coralline algaes have a life cyclethat determines the speed of formation of new colonies. Different species ofcoralline algaes may grow at different rates. It is not unusual to take severalmonths for pink and purple coralline algaes to reach rapid growth rates.
